Caribbean Inspired Immuni-Tea (Simmer Pot Tea Recipe)

Sustainable cooking is how we can become less wasteful and more creative and efficient in the kitchen and with mother natures fruits.

For example, when you're juicing a delicious green juice, and you juice pineapple and/or oranges, instead of disposing of those orange and pineapple skins in the trash, try composting them instead, or: using the skins to making a Caribbean Inspired Simmer Pot Tea.

This tea is an immune system booster, and it is a great tea to make in bulk and drink in abundance during the wintertime to keep your body warm and cozy.

CARIBBEAN INSPIRED IMMUNI-TEA RECIPE:

This immune system boosting tea is made with pineapple OR orange skins! Do this by first thoroughly washing your pineapple peels. I like to soak them in water with 2 teaspoons of baking soda for 10-15 minutes, then rinse them off.

Next, put the skins in a large pot full of spring or distilled water (about 6-8 cups). Add a thumb or more of ginger, and a thumb of turmeric (optional), roughly chopped.

Then add a cinnamon stick, 1-2 star anise, and 4 whole cloves to the pot.

You may also add a handful of dried hibiscus for a boost of antioxidants.

Let this mixture come to a boil, then simmer on low for 45-60 minutes.

Carefully strain your tea, then add your desired sweetener like agave or maple syrup.

Mix, and sip slowly! This tea is delicious served both hot or chilled on ice.

✨Another way you can reuse your orange skins is by drying them and using them for tea.
